Baby Kavin Update #4- Surgery Scheduled

April 11, 2010

I overheard Jason talking with someone on the phone.  He said, “Having faith in God is not just for the small things, but for all things in life.  We trust Him in the small, we trust Him in the big.  Since we trust Him for salvation and eternal life, we can also trust Him with Kavin’s life.”  WOW.  My husband amazes me.  I am so thankful we are walking this road hand in hand.

In just over a month our church hosts “baby dedication”.  Jason’s mom mailed the outfit Jason got baptized in… it is sooo cute! I hope Kavin will fit into it.  I was thinking about the whole “dedication” on the way home. How easy it would be for us to stand up in front of family and friends and say, “We dedicate our child to the Lord and to raising Him up to walk in His ways.”  Yet, here we are, at the alter of Abraham offering Issac, His son of promise.  With full faith that God, some way, some how, would restore Issac’s life.  Here we are at the moment when Hannah dedicated her unborn child to the Lord… here we are where Christ is either our Lord… or we are false Christians.  To some He requires other leaps of faith and sacrifices of praise.  But for us, He has brought us to the threshing floor of surrendering our son.

Today as I took a break from the NICU, I asked the Lord for a scripture.  He led me to Psalm 27:1-2; 13-14 “The Lord is my light and my salvation, Whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?… I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.”

I want Kavin’s healing to come quickly… yesterday would have not been soon enough.  When I see him squirming around trying to put his thumb in his mouth, but his respirator is in the way, I just want to pull out all that stuff and hold him, shush him, and tell him everything is okay… but the Lord is calling us to wait upon Him.  I am so thankful we have His promises of faithfulness, purpose, and joy in the midst of trials (James).

The closer we get to surgery, the more faith and strength we need.  Please stand in the gap with us and see the glory of the Lord revealed through Kavin’s life.

– Surgery tentatively scheduled for Monday at about 7:30 and should take a few hours.  Tentatively is because they need to make sure he is stable enough at that time to the best of their knowledge to be able to undergo surgery.- Please pray that the Lord gives Him breath and sustains him for surgery… or to heal him without!  Whatever would bring the Lord the most glory.

– We saw the x-ray today.  His heart is almost in the right place, just slightly pushed to the left.  His left lung is large, but not fully developed, they are unsure how big the right lung is, as the intestines are in that space, but suspect that it is very small.

Two most life threatening situations with this condition:

1. Pulmonary hypertension: where the pressure of the blood is so high and the openings on the lung tissue so small that the blood cannot get through, causing cardiac arrest because there is too much pressure on the heart.

2. Pulmonary hypoplasia: that the lungs are just too underdeveloped to support his life.

Other concerns:

1. That he will NOT have to go on EKMO or other drastic life sustaining machines, which can cause long term neurological problems and other side effects.

2. That when they place his organs back in the right place, it will be done in a way that makes them fully functional without the need for future surgeries.

3. That there is enough tissue in the diaphragm to be able to stitch up the hole instead of having to use synthetic materials.

4. There are a myrid “what if” situations and possible outcomes… including gastrointestinal problems, neurological, and pulmonary (breathing).  That none of these possibilities would happen and Kavin will be fully whole and healthy.

5. When ever there is surgery, infection is always a possibility. Pray for no infections!

Please pray against these things in the name of Jesus and petition for his life… and anything else the Spirit leads you to pray.

– Heart is working well.

– Got accepted into Ronald MacDonald house so we can be close to Kavin Sunday-Tuesday.

– Got to touch his foot today!!!  It was a most precious moment :-).

1. For God to lead in wisdom by the power of the Holy Spirit all the nurses and doctors that are working on Kavin.  Surgeon’s name is Dr. Applebaum and assistant is Dr. Lemus (in addition the rest of the surgical team, nurses, and doctors.)

2. For the armor of the Lord to protect Kavin from the flaming arrows of the evil one.

3. For the Lord to be the defender of Kavin’s life (Psalm 27:1).

4. For provision for us in all ways to be the parent’s Kavin needs us to be.

5. For the surgery to go smoothly, without incident, and for Kavin to recover quickly and come home! 🙂

6. When Kavin DOES come home, for wisdom to know how to take care of a new born with health issues.  Always asking for divine healing, but trusting for His best for His purposes.

7. For comfort and calmness for Kavin in the meantime. The more active he is, the more unstable.

I Corinthians 1:9-11

Indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead; who delivered us from so great a peril of death, and will deliver us, He on whom we have set our hope. And he will yet deliver us, you also joining us in helping us through your prayers, so that thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf for the favor bestowed on us through the prayers of many.

Thank you for your ministry of prayer!

  1. Father God, I lift up Baby Kavin along with his parents Seana and Jason to you. You are the Great Physician and I pray for your miraculous healing. I am praying that you will guide the hands of the surgeons, nurses, anesthegeologists and everyone else involved with the upcoming surgery. I pray that you will give everyone wisdom as they prepare to operate on our precious Kavin. I pray for comfort, peace, and strength for Baby Kavin, Seana, Jason and their families as they go through this time together. We praise you Lord as we know you are in control and all will be done to your glory. AMEN

  2. Hello Scott family,

I talked to Andrew today and he said if there is anything he can do or information he might be able to give you, please call him. 614.352.6662. He understands everything that is happening to your dear and precious Kavin James.

    I love you all,
Psalms 27 is my favorite and was my sustaining grace during a very challening time.

  3. Seana, when I read your blog I can honestly say that I know what you are going through. When Jacob was born, he was whisked away and I didn’t see him for 2 days. My heart breaks when I think about what you and your husband are going through, but I can honestly say that our God is willing and able to come to the rescue of our children, when there is nothing that we as parents can do. We fight for them the only way we can, which is to fall to our knees and pray. I remember looking over at Jacob at one point and thinking, he could die. But the Lord immediately reminded me that He gave us this child for a reason, and He is not ready to take him home. I believe, and have believed for many years that God has something tremendous in store for my son, and I firmly believe the same for your Kavin. Our God will be faithful to see it through until His work is complete. I am praying and believing for healing from our God, the Great physician. Sending you love and prayers from Doug, Jacob and I – Patty Floyd

  4. Lord, I lift up little Kavin. I pray that you would move the mountains. I pray that you would answer the prayers of your people and especially Seana and Jason and bring Kavin into full health. Please heal his little body. Help every part to form in just the right way. I pray that you would keep the organs in perfect health and help them to go right where they need to be. O Lord, I pray that you would help the doctors to do all of the assessments that they need to. I pray that they would have divine wisdom and understanding about Kavin’s situation. I pray that there would be a clarity about his needs that would come to their minds and that they would not just follow standard procedures. O Lord, I pray that you would strengthen Kavin’s body with your supernatural strength. I pray that your Holy Spirit would surround him, your breath of life would sustain him and that you would raise him up from this sedated sleep to life and full health! I pray that you would enable his body to fight off all disease. I pray that you would give him the will to persevere in the midst of the adversity he has had to deal with in his little body. Thank you Lord that your arms are around him and he is in the safest place he could possibly be. Thank you that You are his shield and his strong tower. Thank you that he is in your care and you have angels attending him. Thank you Lord that YOU WILL thwart the enemy’s plans and YOU WILL bring him into the destiny you have called him to. Thank you that his life is secure in you. Thank you Lord that YOU WILL provide a way for Kavin James Scott. Thank you that nothing is too difficult for you and ALL THINGS are possible. Thank you that you are the same God of the Bible who HEALS. You have not changed. Your power has not diminished. Your greatness WILL BE proclaimed. Your glory WILL BE shown. We worship YOU O God! We expect great things from YOU! Pour out your miracles on the Scotts! In Jesus’ name AMEN

  5. Jason and Seana,
Our hearts and prayers are with you. You and your precious little Kavin are already a testimony to so many of us. We could FEEL your strength in the our Lord Christ just by reading your post. There is Kingdom work to be done, and you are doing it. I cant wait for the day that Kavin reads all this stuff. He will know that not only did God knit him in your womb Seana, but that he set him apart for HIS work. We love you guys and will be praying for all your request. In the name of Jesus…AMEN!

  6. Continuing to pray. Your names are brought up often at our home as we pray over you. You are a blessing to so many, Seana. Stand firm in the Lord! We love you.

  7. My dear friend, I am in awe of your strength and faith right now. I am also heartbroken for you and your husband. I’m not sure if Kavin has gone in for surgery yet but I am praying. I know the fear of a sick child, the fear of a child in need of a life saving surgery, but I don’t know the feeling of never holding that child. No mother should ever have to wait to hold her baby. Please take some sort of comfort in knowing that there is more prayer around you right now than you could imagine.

  8. Team Scott,

We prayed for you all weekend! You are ministering to us through your faith, He is being glorified indeed. On my way to work, this worship song came on, and it was my prayer for you, “When we pray, we tap in to miraculous things, and victorious things we declare.”

Love you guys! Peter & Jocelyn White

  9. * As I drove to my corporate office this morning- (Monday) I prayed for your Kavin and for you Seana and Jason- I knew my day would have its challenges but I listened to the song ,”Hallelujah” and asking God to please be with you today and see you thru with his healing hand- it gave me such peace heading towards my stressful sisuation to just talk to God and ask him to please wrap his arms around your sisuation and make it right – I send you tons of love and support- my getting out of my self and sending out prayers- made my stuff mimimized … and I was stronger and cool and my stress was no longer- I hope your day went well and know so many care and are with you in spirit and prayer-
Love, Andie (Laura and Tig’s Mom )

  10. As I contemplated the break of another day in the life of Kavin, I rejoiced with the Lord in the miracle of his surgery and the wonder of his daily healing. I thanked God for the remarkable faith and strength of the two of you and Kavin’s faith that he will soon be in the arms of the one who knitted him in the womb. I so look forward to his coming home and growing, daily, in his beautiful nursery wrapped in love.

    Hugs and Love,
